In the northern most mountains lies the ancient cedar forest of Lebanon. The cedar is considered the symbolic tree of the country and is depicted in the Lebanese flag. The Cedars ski resort is one of the oldest in Lebanon hosting ski enthusiasts from as early as the 1920’s. The first ski lift in the country was installed there in 1953.
The 2000 meter altitude gives the Cedars Resort a longer ski season than most other resorts in the country starting in November and lasting well into the end of April, and skiers and snowboarders of all skill levels are sure to find a great experience here. The Chairlifts are located in a huge basin and transport skiers to the mountain peak.
Several snow wire lifts are also there to guide the beginners up gentle slopes. Cross Country skiing is a pure pleasure at the Cedars resort, due to the scenic views.
Apres ski activities abound at the resort, as well as many interesting places to visit year round in the area one of which is the ancient Cedar forest reserve. The neighboring villages are full of old world charm with ancient churches and monasteries. Becharreh, the birthplace of Gibran Khalil Gibran, Lebanon’s most renowned writer, painter, poet is home to a museum dedicated to his memory, and situated in a monastery carved into the mountain. The Kadisha valley is another awe inspiring view that is not to be missed.
